About Me
I'm a black, trans child of the Midwest. I grew up in a multicultural home that fostered my love of languages, reading, writing. In my free time I enjoy reading, writing, playing video games, losing to my friends at Catan, and binging anime with my partner.

Origin Story
My unique childhood taught me early on to respect people of different cultures, faiths, and ethnicities. I grew up in a Hindu-Christian home, raised by my white mother and my Indian stepfather. I've attended a temple, and I've attended mass. I watched Bollywood musicals with my step-grandmother and Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals with my maternal grandmother.
I came out as queer when I was 23. I am thankful to be in a place where
I can love and embrace who I am. I hope to encourage and inspire
others to love themselves for who they are.
I have lived in multiple states across the US, but I call Kansas my home state. I lived in Sweden and Estonia for a time in 2013 and 2014. My time in northern Europe inspired me to study Nordic and Uralic languages. I moved to Minneapolis to attend the University of Minnesota in 2016 and received a BA in Linguistics in 2019. As divine luck would have it, I found a job as a student staff member at Elmer L. Andersen Library. I spent seven wonderful years in the library, earning several promotions and an award.
University of Minnesota - Linguistics BA
I moved to Minneapolis in 2016 to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and Scandinavian Studies. I took Swedish and Finnish, inspired by my time in Sweden and Estonia. Estonian is in the same language family as Finnish, and I wanted to continue my exploration of the Uralic family of languages. I studied Finnish under the award-winning professor Daniel Karvonen. I studied Swedish and Nordic culture under the author and historian Lena Norrman.
From 2018 to 2019, I researched descriptions of the senses in various languages under the supervision of Polly Szatrowski. Additionally, from 2018 to 2019, I was a committee member of the student-run group organizing the Minnesota Undergraduate Linguistics Symposium. In the wake of a personal tragedy, I took two semesters off and completed my degree in December 2020.
My linguistics degree and research provided me with the skills and experience for effective communication with others. Understanding a standard grammar, lexicon, and expression is critical for all interactions and relationships. I have taken this knowledge and applied it to my professional life and my work.
Work Experience
Before I moved to Minnesota, I worked as a counselor at my hometown community theatre. When I moved to Minnesota, I became a student staff member at Elmer L. Andersen Library, working in the Performing Arts Archives and the Literature Archives. After my first semester, the assistant curator asked me to work with her on their upcoming grant-funded project, Prairie Poets and Press. The project lasted two years, and I worked under two project managers, the assistant curator and the curator. I also worked on smaller projects and tasks in the Performing Arts Archives. I gained tremendous knowledge of archival preservation, collections management, preservation, and professionalism. I was awarded the 2018 Outstanding Library Student Award for my work on the project.
While working in the Performing Arts collections, I was fortunate to form a friendship with the Hennepin Theatre Trust coordinator. He introduced me to the director of the Hennepin County Libraries Special Collections. After the Prairie Poets and Press grant project ended, I was awarded an internship at the Hennepin County Libraries for a semester in 2018. After my internship, I returned to Elmer L. Andersen Library. I was employed on a project funded by the Minnesota Orchestra to work on their archival collection through the summer of 2019.
In May 2019, the Hennepin County Libraries offered me a position as the project archivist for the Barbara Flanagan papers. I worked in this role from May to August of 2019. At the end of summer 2019, I was offered a full-time position at Andersen Library as an archival assistant to the curators of the Manuscripts division. I worked as an Archival Assistant from 2019 to 2021 and was promoted to Administrative Collections Associate in 2021. I served as the assistant to the Manuscript division curators and, when one of the curatorships was vacated, assumed most of the curatorial roles for three collections. It was very demanding work, but I am proud of my accomplishments.
I am in a new chapter, exploring a world beyond libraries, and eager to find my following path. If you want to work together, don't hesitate to get in touch with me via the section below.
